For the seventh time, Attorney Martin Stuart was named to 5280 Magazine’s “Denver’s Top Lawyers” List for his work in Colorado criminal defense.
The 2024 list is the tenth edition released by Denver area magazine, 5280. This prestigious edition is published in January of each year and includes only about 500 recognized attorneys in the Denver Metro and surrounding areas. McDermott Stuart & Ward’s Martin Stuart received the same recognition in criminal law in 2017, 2018, and yearly since 2020.
Identifying 5280 Magazine’s Annual “Denver’s Top Lawyers”
5280 Magazine’s Annual “Denver’s Top Lawyers” Award is an exceptional recognition reserved for only the best lawyers in Colorado. 5280 Magazine compiles its list by asking other lawyers in the metro area to vote for their colleagues in 50 different specialty areas of law. They generate the list of legal specialties with help from the Colorado Bar Association, other lawyers, and law firms in the area.
After tallying peer votes, 5280 Magazine also does its independent research to help determine which attorneys are the best in the region. Their efforts help people in Colorado find a distinguished lawyer without having to guess which one to hire at random.
Any lawyer with an active license in the seven-county metro area surrounding Denver can participate in the nomination survey, typically made available on 5280.com in May each year. 5280 Magazine invited over 17,000 licensed lawyers registered with the Colorado Supreme Court’s Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel to participate in nominations. They also got in touch with local bar associations to ensure they received a lot of responses for peer nominations.
Martin Stuart, Colorado Criminal Defense Attorney
Denver-based criminal defense attorney Martin Stuart earned a law degree from the University of Denver. His legal career began in 1997 as a Colorado State Public Defender. Then, in 2002, he opened a solo law practice. Between 2011 and 2015, Stuart was a managing partner with Portman Stuart, LLC. Along with successful attorneys Sean McDermott and Thomas Ward, Stuart formed the firm McDermott Stuart & Ward LLP in 2016.
Throughout his almost 27-year legal career, Mr. Stuart has been engaged in more than 100 jury trials. His experience includes obtaining acquittals in both state and federal courts on criminal charges ranging from first-degree murder to child abuse to theft of trade secrets to sex assaults. He is also an experienced expert witness, frequently testifying for ineffective assistance of counsel claims.
