At McDermott Stuart & Ward LLP, we recognize and celebrate the achievements of our attorneys. With all of his education, experience, and community involvement, it’s no surprise that our own Joshua Nowak has received the exclusive Super Lawyers Rising Star rating.

Joshua graduated from the Denver Sturm College of Law in 2016, where he earned several awards and recognitions. He was admitted to the Colorado State Bar the same year and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado in 2021.

Before coming to McDermott Stuart & Ward LLP, Mr. Nowak worked as an attorney in the Colorado Public Defender’s Office, Greeley, Boulder, Denver, and Brighton Colorado for five years. Here, he conducted nearly 50 jury trials and obtained countless successful outcomes for his clients, received an award for “Outstanding County Court Lawyer of the Year,” and was promoted to a Senior Deputy State Public Defender. He also received the Adams Broomfield Bar Association Award for “Young Attorney of the Year.”

Super Lawyers

Super Lawyers is a designation designed for outstanding attorneys from over 70 different practice areas. Super Lawyers distinguishes attorneys who have a high degree of professional achievement and peer recognition. The patented Super Lawyers selection process relies on independent research, peer nominations, and peer evaluations.

The goal of Super Lawyers is to create a dependable, wide-ranging, and diverse directory of outstanding lawyers that will be a valuable tool for other attorneys and consumers alike who are looking for various types of legal counsel. Since Super Lawyers is intended as an aid in choosing a lawyer, they reserve attorney ratings for those who can be hired and retained by the public.

Each Super Lawyer candidate is evaluated using the 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement:

  • Verdicts/Settlements
  • Transactions
  • Representative Clients
  • Experience
  • Honors/Awards
  • Special licenses/certifications
  • Position within the law firm
  • Bar and/or professional activity
  • Pro bono and community service
  • Scholarly lectures/writings
  • Education/employment background
  • Other outstanding achievements

Rising Stars

Super Lawyers’ Rising Stars list is identical to the Super Lawyers selection process, except that to be eligible, the candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for ten years or less. All Rising Star attorneys are subject to the traditional Super Lawyers selection process. Those who aren’t selected to the Super Lawyers list but meet one of the Rising Stars eligibility requirements go on to the Rising Stars selection process. As many as five percent of the lawyers in each state receive a Super Lawyers designation, 2.5 percent or less are added to the Rising Stars list.

The Super Lawyers Magazine details the list and profiles of selected attorneys. This publication is distributed to designated attorneys in their current state or region. Super Lawyers can also be found in a dedicated section in leading city and regional magazines across the U.S.

Congratulations on your Rising Star Super Lawyers designation, Joshua Nowak! It’s well-deserved, and we are proud to have you at our firm.
